| Seleneah More [president]I'm a Torres Strait Islander woman who made Kurilpa home for 20+years. I live with my partner and our nine year old in a small unit full of shoes (sneaks not choos) in lieu of a car. My favourite local park is Paradise because it has a half court, pizza oven and garden. My love of cities and people led me to become an Urban Planner and, join the West End Community Association and Tenants Queensland(Director). I'm keen to improve the liveability of Kurilpa as an urban neighbourhood through connection and celebration. |
| ANNIE COWLING [VICE PRESIDENT] I have lived in West End for over 20 years. I was born in central Victoria on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung; my heritage is Cornish Welsh. I joined WECA not long after I moved to 4101, and it was the best thing I have ever done to get to know this community and the people who care.My working life has mostly been in the trade union movement; with gender inclusion projects, training, social justice and community cultural development. Having retired, I enjoy bush walking and wine appreciation. My dog Louie (poodle) is now 15 and so doesn't get out as much as he once did. Our area is facing many challenges; so I am keen to get my hands dirty and contribute what I can to this amazing place. |
| PAUL KING [SECRETARY] I have had a long association with Kurilpa/WestEnd, starting with my Parents who moved here after migrating from Estonia after WWII. I moved here in 1990 and my two sons were born and commenced Primary School here. I worked in Entertainment Promotion at that time, but most of my other work has been Social Justice based. I moved back to live and work here 3 years ago after time in regional Queensland and overseas. I love live music, and the performance, art, and culture that West End has that in spades. I joined WECA because I was concerned about the continuing amenity of our community in the face of over development, and to support the arts, culture and multi culturalism which we, and so many visitors, enjoy. |
| Sebastian Vanderzeil [treasurer]I am a long time West End resident having grown up here and now raising a family on the Kurilpa peninsula. I am interested in maintaining the critical social fabric of the area and building an urban community that is diverse, liveable, safe and sustainable. I joined WECA to help deliver that ambition. |
| MAEVE LEJEUNE [BOARD MEMBER]I lived in West End for 26 years before being priced out of the area and moving to a sharehouse in a suburb nearby with four friends. Being on the board of WECA helps me to contribute and stay connected to a community that I love. I recently began my first year of teaching and have a wonderful and incredibly chatty year 6 class. Before that, I drew people’s houses and also some icons of West End and I’m hoping to eventually find more time to do a bit of that again. |
 | RHI ELLIS [BOARD MEMBER] I have worked in Kurilpa on and off since the mid 90s and was fortunate enough to have been able to purchase my home in the community back in 2019.I believe that our community here in 4101 is unique and incredibly special and I am so proud and grateful to be able to be part of it.Outside of my day job as an auditor, I volunteer at West End Community House and run a West End-based community group that advocates for and supports homeless and marginalised people in our community here in 4101.I have volunteered in a diverse range of people-focused roles over the past 27 years and have a special interest in the areas of homelessness and marginalised people, community values, maintaining diversity in our community, community engagement, inclusivity, sustainable development and affordable housing. I am excited to be part of the WECA management committee this year and look forward to working for our wonderful community! |
| PAULA HARDIE [BOARD MEMBER] I’m a community-led strategic designer and researcher. I’ve worked in the areas of food security, homelessness, waste, education, community engagement, and First Nations communications. I have always lived in Meanjin, in or nearby the Kurilpa area, and have two red cattle dogs, Jilly and Rowdy (Orleigh Dog Park regulars). Through WECA I’m driven to strengthen our community’s liveability and climate resilience for the generations to come. |
| emma foreman [BOARD MEMBER]I'm a proud Aboriginal woman and mother who has lived in Kurilpa on and off for around 15 years. My professional work is rooted in human rights, disability advocacy, and supporting people with cognitive impairment to navigate the justice system. I have a particular focus on housing and homelessness, as well as family and domestic violence prevention and have volunteered in a range of roles that focus on those at risk. I believe in the power of community-led change and am committed to ensuring that those most at risk are not left behind. |
